Adaptations
Making adaptations and adjustments to your home may be a solution which can help maintain independence.
For example, you may be experiencing difficulties getting into and out of the bath or be feeling increasingly worried about falls; you may be unable to go out into the garden due to steps or uneven pathways; it may be necessary to have adaptations done before someone can safely return home from hospital.
In addition, developments in technology mean that there are now options such as fitting isolation switches for gas and electric supplies and for water taps.
By giving you information on how to make your home more suitable for you GFI can help you stay independent for longer, help you find ways to access your garden and other areas associated with leisure, and much more.
Examples of adaptations include:
- level access showers
- stair lifts
- creating bedrooms on the ground floor
- handrails and permanent outdoor ramps
- levelling pathways and driveways
- alterations to steps
- step lifts
- adapted kitchens
- through the floor lifts
- overhead hoists
GFI can put you in touch with fully qualified Occupational Therapists who are specialists in major adaptation work. They will discuss your needs with you and help you to decide on the right solution.
They can also assist with checking plans drawn up by architects and builders for extensions and adaptations - and for new properties - to ensure they meet the present and future needs of the individual.
