                                 Social Activity Project 2018

                                       Our Big Party!

What a great day we have had! 40 people from the groups we have been working with over the last year attended from across the Tees Valley region, from Darlington, Stockton, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Redcar.

The event was held at the Middlesbrough Municipal Golf Club which was an excellent venue with very helpful staff. We arranged mini-buses to bring people to the event which included a lovely buffet lunch, a fun quiz and a raffle, to which members of the groups had donated a range of gifts.

The groups networked with each other and follow-ups were planned.

We have received some wonderful feedback and all were emphatic in wanting the social activities and workshops to continue.

One of our participants said that she felt that blind people were "impoverished by the lack of stimulation in their lives - there is more to life than television, radio and talking books!"

We completely agree and will do our best to help to address this issue.
Social Activities Project update - September 2018

It is now September 2018 and our year-long project is coming to an end with a final Event planned for November.
The event will bring together the 5 groups we have been working with from across the Tees Valley region, and will include a lovely buffet, a display of work done by the groups, a raffle and a quiz; a celebration of the last year with our thanks to the Big Lottery.

Just a few more activity sessions to deliver - which have been so successful and enjoyed by the participants. Follow our progress on our facebook page at  "GoingFor Independence"

As a team we have learned a lot about how to work with and support people with sight impairments; this knowledge will stand us in good stead as we apply for some more funding to expand on our programme and reach more people. We hope to develop our programme to include people with dementia and isolated Asian ladies groups.

November 2017- Project Success with our 2017-2018 Application

We are delighted to report on our success with an application for an Awards for All Big Lottery grant which will enable us to develop our social activity offering for people isolated in their communities through sensory or physical impairments, mental ill-health and other long term conditions.
In line with our mission statement, our project is focussed on having fun through meaningful activity and over the next 10 months we will be running monthly activity sessions in 5 borough areas in Teesside:-

                                             and Redcar and Cleveland

We have also had donations from the Freemasons in Hartlepool to enable us to offer additional activities and refreshments in this area, and a contribution from the engineering company Sabic for us to purchase more equipment and resources. Their support is much appreciated, and we will be inviting them to come and see what we are doing!
