The GFI Team 2018

The Going For Independence Community Interest Company was founded by Pam Bennett in 2008.

Management Board:- Our Board of Directors is the management board responsible for the legal, financial and personnel aspects of the organisation and for its vision and the development of policies and strategies.
As a community interest company we submit annual Social Audit reports to the Government’s CIC Regulator.

We have 6 Directors:

Pam Bennett
is the Founder and Managing Director of GFI. Pam has specialist knowledge about equipment, telecare and adaptations for independent living, being particularly interested in how we negotiate built and natural environments, with a wealth of experience as a project manager.
Pam trained as an Architect and worked for local government and the NHS and also at the central government Office for Disability Issues.

Alan Norton is an Advisor to British Government Ministers, and to the Department for Work and Pensions.  He has been instrumental in developing disability services in the UK and Europe. Through nationally recognised Training Delivery, Access Audits and Consultancy services to health organisations and professionals he is at the cutting edge of the disabled and older persons sector working closely with product designers, manufacturers, healthcare professionals, universities and persons with disabilities. Alan is currently Chair of the Disabled Motorist UK charity, a Board member of Driving Mobility, and MD of Into Independence Ltd.

Sophie Bishop has wide experience of working with disabled adults and children and is the Director responsible for Business and Project Development.

Christine Walker has specialist knowledge of services for people with physical impairments and of Commissioning and Quality Monitoring.

David Rose is CE of Croydon Hearing and has been on the GFI Advisory Board since 2010, having wide experience of services for people with a sensory impairment. Croydon Hearing provides advice, information and practical help and support to people with any type of hearing loss, and works closely with Croydon Vision supporting people with dual sensory loss and with Disability Croydon.

James Kelleher is CE of Disability Croydon, an organisation offering information, advice, advocacy and support to disabled people and their families on issues which affect their daily lives. James has worked on numerous projects and initiatives to better the lives and increase opportunities for people living with disabilities.

GFI Directors and Volunteers work as members of our Admin, Fund Raising and Bookkeeping Team and we appoint Project Workers for specific work.
